Brian and Pauline Staff welcome you to Holmhead a former farmhouse which stands uniquely on the foundations of Hadrians wall near the "Centre of Britain" at the southwest corner of the Northumberland National Park. Bed and Breakfast, evening meals, self catering accommodation and bunk-house accommodation for walkers, cyclists and vacations, holidays and touring, and those who don't smoke, specialising in Hadrians Wall, information and archaeology. Short breaks and themed breaks, ghost trails and history trails.
It is half way between Edinburgh and York, and within an easy drive of the lake district, the heritage coast and the Scottish borders. Hadrians Wall is a World Heritage Site. It crosses from coast to coast of Northern England for 73 Miles, and is a breathtaking sight. You can visit long stretches of remaining wall; archaeological excavations of the wall and of 8 of the remaining forts along the route, there are also 11 museums. Most are open all year.

At Holmhead Guest House we offer 4 ensuite bedrooms, delicious evening meals, good wine list, cocktail bar. No smoking and no pets. Sightseeing / touring information from your host a former tour guide and expert on Hadrians Wall. B&B from £29.50 per person sharing dbl/twin. English Tourism Council 4 Diamonds. We also have The Cottage - our ETC 3 Star self catering apartment, and The Barn - ETC inspected bunkhouse for more basic accommodation for up to 8, with drying and cycle storage facilities. Holmhead has 4 cosy bedrooms, shower/toilet for each one. The bedrooms are fully carpeted, have central heating, armchair, radio, hairdryer, plenty of storage space and lovely countryside views. Cot and extra bed available. Hospitality tray on request. The light airy lounge is next to the bedroom, so it is easy to pop in and make your own tea and coffee (inc. decaffeinated), hot chocolate or hot beef drink from the trolley free of charge. At one end of the lounge the sofas are grouped near the colour television and at the other around a coffee table, near a small bar, with miniatures of liqueur, sherry, spirits etc., and cold wine or beer. There are plenty of board games, extensive local history library, jigsaws and childrens toys. Hi Fi Stereo, living flame fire and foot massager are provided for your comfort.

Tell us the night before what you would like and at what time you would like to be served. Excellence award from British Tourist Authority. High chair available. Eating at Holmhead is much more like going to a private dinner party than staying in a guest house. Food is served family style with beamed, stone arched dining room, furnished with antiques and a large candlelit oak table. There is no choice of dishes, but such is the standard of Brian and Pauline's cooking, that guests never seem to find this an imposition. If guests have any particular diets or dislikes, it would be appreciated if they would mention them when booking. Holmhead is fully licensed to sell wines and spirits and guests can choose specialty organically grown wine from our award winners list of wine from around the world.
Many a lasting friendship has been forged across the four corners of the earth, from evenings around the table. There is a relaxing area in the dining room with a library. The menu is fixed price, the food always freshly prepared and attractively served, using farm and local produce. The meal consists of a starter, main course, dessert, and coffee with mints which can be served in the upstairs lounge if preferred. Pauline Staff is offering omlettes made with eggs and nuts, freshly squeezed apple juice with honey, and Roman Bread made from a secret recipe, to visitors to her Holmhead Guest House, in Greenhead Northumberland. Guests can also sample Roman herbs from the garden and an adapted Roman sauce. Organic wine is available to purchase from the premises. Pauline has been awarded National Tourism and Environmental awards.

:: The Cottage (for non-smokers)
A barn conversion integral part of the farm, but with it's own back and front door. The lounge-diner with colour television and hi-fi has south-facing french doors opening onto the patio and car park. The kitchen area has full electric cooker, microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and automatic washing machine. Tumble dryer available. The bathroom is large and equipped with bars, handrails and transfer platform suitable for the disabled.
There are 2 bedrooms - 1 double and 1 twin.
The back door opens onto private walled gardens (right) with magnificent views of the castle ruin. The cosy lounge has electric coal-effect fire, and there is central heating and linen all included in the price. All rooms are on the ground floor with wide doors and easy to reach switches and taps.
There is a payphone on site, and Pauline and Brian Staff are always on hand for help and information.
£201-£397 per week everything included except food .
