Berry Park is a splendid Victorian Country House, full of character and set in six acres of attractive gardens and fields in the beautiful Devon countryside right next to the Cornish Border. It is close to the sea, in the unspoiled hamlet of Welcombe. The house has been skilfully converted into apartments of various sizes(sleep 2 to 7). All have been carefully modernised to provide every comfort, whilst retaining the original Victorian features giving them style and character. There are also two cottages adjoining the main house, these date back to the 16th century. Primrose Cottage sleeps up to 9, Garden Cottage sleeps 2.
All our accommodation is fully equipped for easy self-catering but we also have a small restaurant serving evening meals to our residents should they wish. We have a games room, heated outdoor swimming pool.Free WiFi.
The spectacular scenery around Welcombe makes it the perfect venue for those who enjoy coast and country walks. Berry Park borders the Marsland Valley which is a site of special scientific interest (SSSI) and an officially designated area of outstanding natural beauty. It is home to much rare wildlife including red deer, otters and buzzards, Numerous wild flowers abound especially in the springtime when bluebells carpet the woods and it becomes hard to believe that orchids are rare. In Autumn the area produces a rich variety of mushrooms and toadstools.Welcombe Mouth beach is within Walking distance of Berry Park (20 mins) or is accessible by car (3/4 mile). It has a waterfall, rock pools and lots of sand at low tide. Washed by the Atlantic twice a day, it is a very clean beach. Experienced surfers seek out this beach, swimming and body boarding are enjoyed by all.
There are many excellent tourist attractions for both children and adults within easy driving distance of Berry Park. "The Big Sheep", "The Milky Way", "Killarney Springs" and "Brocklands" all provide popular family days out. For those who enjoy sports, there is a choice of indoor swimming pools,"golf courses", horse riding, tennis & squash at various venues. Water sports and fishing are available at several places along the coast as well as at the Tamar Lakes. The famous fishing village of "Clovelly" is a short drive away and day trips to Lundy and fishing and diving trips on the Jessica Hettie are available from there. In addition to the diversity of it's landscape, the area also plays host to a wonderful selection of fine gardens. RHS Rosemoor is 45 Minutes drive away and a visit can be combined with a trip to the Dartington Crystal Factory. Other gardens nearby are at Hartland Abbey, Clovelly Court, "Docton Mill", Tapeley Park and Marwood Hill.
