Portland House in Keswick is a bed and breakfast guest house conveniently situated in a quiet area close to the town centre and just a short stroll away from the theatre and lake.
This large victorian town house, which was built in the 1880's from traditional Lakeland stone has six tastefully furnished en-suite bedrooms, with one being on the ground floor suitable for guests with limited mobility.
Portland House has a spacious and bright dining room, which is situated on the corner of the house with windows on both sides. Enjoy the delicious Cumbrian breakfasts served each morning using the best local produce.
In addition to the large breakfast menu there are also a number of vegetarian options, a variety of cereals, fresh fruit, yogurts and orange juice. The tea and coffee used at Portland House is supplied by 'Fairtrade' companies and free newspapers are laid out for guests to read. A toaster in the dining room allows guests to make their own toast the way they like it!
Portland House offers six tastefully furnished guest bedrooms all equipped with en-suite bathrooms.
There are three double rooms, one family room sleeping four, one twin-bedded room and one single room.
The twin-bedded room, which is situated on the ground floor is suitable for guests with limited mobility in that it has a large specially equipped bathroom and level access.
The single room has views looking over Keswick towards the Lakeland Fells beyond.
The family room is a large room with two sets of windows due to it being on the corner of the house.
All rooms are fully centrally heated with colour TV, hospitality tray, wine glasses and a corkscrew bottle opener, clock radio and a hair dryer and are inspected annualy by the local tourist association.
Drying facilities are also available along with secure cycle storage.
Keswick lies on the shore of Derwentwater, one of the Lake District 's most beautiful areas surrounded by mountains and fells. It makes Keswick the ideal location for a Lakeland holiday whatever your interests or pursuits. Some of the best walking and cycling routes in England are close by.
From the lakeshore by the theatre you can catch a launch which will take you round the lake and drop you off at any of the 6 landing stages from where you can walk the fells and take in the breathtaking views of England's largest National Park. Other activities available locally include sailing, windsurfing, horse riding, rock climbing, golf, and many, many more.
