  • Mill Beck Cottage - B&B Penrith - MORE THAN A BED AND BREAKFAST - A HOME FROM HOME
Morland near Penrith is an unspoilt quiet Cumbrian working village off the beaten track. Well furnished, nothing too much trouble, meals very flexible to suite guest's needs, all local/Cumbrian produce used.

"Morland is a delightful , peaceful and unspoilt village midway between Appleby and Penrith, nestling in the Eden Valley between the Lakes (Ullswater) and the Pennines. Morland is one of the oldest villages, having grown up around the beck and Saxon church on its small hill.

Mill Beck Cottage, on Water Street, faces the beck, with open fields beyond. The bedrooms of this old traditional cottage overlook the stream with its ford, footbridge and grassy banks where swallows swoop in the summer and you may see a heron dining on minnows. The beck is also home to families of ducks.

Inside there are two cosy double bedrooms furnished in country style, with good reading lamps, a well-stocked tea tray and TV and radio. The two bedrooms share one excellently appointed bathroom.

The walls of the cottage are covered in an intriguing collection of paintings, old prints and watercolours (some of the latter by Hardre Jackson herself). Many are from distant countries as the Jacksons are well-travelled, Derek Jackson having led many international expeditions during and after service in the Parachute Regiment.

If you dine you may have, for example, a starter of eggs, tomatoes, capers and anchovies, followed by Navarin of fell-bred lamb and chocolate gateau with cherries. Please ask by phone for a full menu if you require dinner.

This quiet and peaceful village and valley is on the Cumbrian Way long distance walk and the Coast to Coast footpaths.

Lakes and Pennines 15 minutes as well as attractive market towns and glorious scenery, likewise M6/A6/A66. Very comfortable beds, good reading lights and all ammenities. Overseas visitors welcoe by very well travelled hosts. Phone contact preferred to discuss rquirements and meals etc by excellent cook and experienced hostess. Pets and children by arrangement Very good pubs and eating within minutes and well away from holiday crowds. Unspoilt pastoral and riverside walks from house. Yorkshire National Park 30 minutes.
