Lunga is a fine old Scottish country house (originally a 16th century Tower House), castellated, turreted, set on green lawns amidst tangled woodland. It looks out upon the sea: the waters of the Firth of Lorne and the Sound of Jura are just five hundred metres away.

The house, with its four thousand acre estate, stands upon the west coast of the Craignish Peninsula. This is a ten mile promontory stretching out into the islands of the Inner Hebrides from the coastal road where Mid-Argyll meets Lorne. The country here is some of the most beautiful in Scotland, and some of its least discovered. The shoreline is rugged, craggy, indented, but not without its gentle coves and beaches – as well as many islands where seals bask and sea birds nest, and where a careful observer may see both eagles and otters. Above the shoreline the land is lush and undulating, with many remaining fragments of the Caledonian Forest giving shelter amidst oaks and pines to a great diversity of animals and wild flowers. Lunga Estate makes the ideal base from which to explore this area of Argyllshire or as a stopping off point as you head north/south on your travels.

There is B&B accommodation and 4 self catering flats within the Lunga and 4 self catering cottages on the estate.

The B&B accommodation (from ?24 per person per night) in Lunga House is old world and comfortable, with either private bathrooms or shower rooms. Full Scottish breakfasts are served with lighter options if required. Candlelit Dinners can be arranged, with most meals served in the wood panelled Morning Room or the Dining Room. Guests can also make use of the Hall, which has a cosy seating area and selection of History/Reference Books, Stag heads, tigers and maps to peruse. In the Drawing Room there are games such as shove ha’penny, ping pong and snooker, as well as a grand piano.

    Tower Flat:
Two floors above the Victorian part of the house, this flat has some fine rooms and spectacular views of sunsets over the Corryvreckan whirlpool, has 3 double/twin bedrooms, a double bedroom and 5 bathrooms. The sitting room has 2 beds if required.

    Bachelor Flat:
On the second floor, is in the oldest part of the house. Sizeable rooms with deep coombs, odd angles and levels. Small Jacobean windows give a jewel like quality to the vista of islands and gardens. Most rooms also have big velux roof-lights, filling them with sunlight. There are 4 double/twin rooms, 5 bathrooms and can have 2 beds in the sitting room.

    Spencer Flat:
The first floor has wide views over Mull and Jura, the yachts sailing in the Sound of Shuna and the horses in the Park below. The sitting room is the 18th Century ladies drawing room which has a nice marble fireplace and period cornices. A double/twin bedroom, 2 bathrooms and can have 2 beds in the sitting room.

    Stewart Flat :
This one bed roomed flat has slightly less view but great sunsets. The sitting room, originally the Gentlemen’s Smoking Room has a large open fire. A double bedroom with extra bed and 2 bathrooms and can have 2 beds in the sitting room.

    Coachman’s Cottage:

    Fillan’s and Dail Cottage:

In Ardfern, a fine stone and slated one and half story house built in 1828. Upstairs has a master bedroom, with en-suite bathroom, 3 twin/double bedrooms, family bathroom, separate toilet and laundry area with washing machine/tumble dryer.

Downstairs, the front hall leads to the kitchen, a large living room, a downstairs toilet and shower room and fifth twin/double bedroom which can take an extra bed. The living room is more of a farmhouse kitchen with Franklin stove open fire, 2 dressers, a large table seating 10 people. It leads to a double glazed conservatory with heated marble floor. The kitchen has double sinks, 2 dishwashers, an American fridge/freezer, Rangemaster cooker (six burner double oven) with halogen top. Connected to the house is an old stone barn converted to a garage/play room.
