Thousand Acres - Self Catering Manor House Wotton under edge - Cotswold Manor House for Country House Weekends
Thousand Acres is a lovely six bedrooms, four bathrooms manor house nestled in the Cotswold Hills. The house can sleep up to 14 people
Its 9.3 acres include formal lawns, a croquet lawn, a Victorian walled garden, paddocks and woodland. The house itself has an indoor swimming pool, sauna and hot tub with gym equipment and a pool table whilst in the grounds there is the croquet lawn, tennis court, a children’s trampoline and swings .
Thousand Acres was once the home of Dame Joan Evans a respected author who described the house as “being compact, solid and with a good garden and wide views over all the vale of Severn to the hills of Wales”. It is a house designed for luxurious country living incorporating all modern facilities. It is perfect for family holidays, reunions or a special celebration break.
From 2009 it will be possible to rent the barn and orangery with the house for larger functions such as for corporate retreats and weddings – please ask for our separate brochures.
The fully fitted kitchen/living area is a family space with a dining area, breakfast bar and family area comprised of: two sofas, plasma TV and surround sound DVD system. There is a Bose sound system throughout the ground floor and this is located in the kitchen family area. The kitchen units are solid wood with marble worktops and there is a large double oven range cooker and dishwasher.
We provide cloths, tea towels, washing up liquid etc – not need to bring your own.
Everything is equipped to serve and seat 14 people.
There are double doors from the kitchen that open on to a patio area with large gas barbecue, gas heaters and extensive range of caste iron garden furniture. There are also two large hammocks available for use together with various garden games sets.
The drawing room has an open log fire and double doors that open on to a terrace with extensive views. There is seating for 8 people in the sitting room and there is a caste iron table and chairs on the patio with a chiminea.
The formal dining room seats 14 people, has a living flame gas fire and a grand piano.
The library has two large sofas and a selection of novels and board games. It has a fireplace with a flame effect fire. One of the sofas is a double sofa bed - providing additional seating if required.
There are four large bedrooms on the first floor, two are en-suite with four poster beds and the other two share a family bathroom with separate shower and cast iron bath. There are two further bedrooms on the second floor with a double bed and single bed in each (but can convert to three single beds) – these are very large rooms and share a large bathroom with separate shower.
Games Room & TV Room
On the lower ground floor there is a games room with pool table and a TV room with a selection of DVDs and videos and children’s games and toys.
In the grounds there is a tennis court; table tennis; trampoline and swings together with a croquet lawn. Please ensure small children are properly supervised at all times. Clay pigeon shooting can also be arranged please ask for details.
In the leisure suite there is a heated indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi and sauna with a selection of gym equipment.
There are two utility areas – one with a large fridge and freezer and microwave and the other with a washing machine and condenser drier and indoor drying area.
There is a back hall with space for wet clothes and wellies. There is also an outdoor drying area in the back courtyard with a double washing line.
Clean bed linen is provided on arrival with fluffy towels and bathrobes for all bedrooms (children’s sizes on request). All bathrooms have a selection of toiletries included. Pool area towels are also provided.
Washing powder, conditioner, washing up liquid etc. is all provided in the kitchen and utility areas.
Towels are changed mid-week and a mid-week cleaning service can be provided for weekly stays.
On arrival you will find a welcome basket witha selection of goodies to start your stay.
There is a Co-op and Tesco express in the village and in nearby Tetbury a lovely range of quality food shops many by Royal Appointment plus a large Tesco. A little further afield in Cirencester there is a Waitrose and a Tesco superstore. The farm shop next to Thousand Acres provides a range of home cooked pies and dishes together with local cheeses and seasonal fresh fruit and vegetables.
Babysitting can be provided if requested in advance for an additional fee of £8 per hour.
We can organise catering for special occasions and for 2009 the Orangery and Barn will be available for functions by separate arrangement – these will only be let in conjunction with the Manor House.
From the M5 heading north, exit at junction 14 and take the B4509 to Charfield and the B4058, signposted to Wotton under Edge. Once in the village, take the Dursley Road and the last turning on the left, signed Bradley Green. Continue along this lane for 150 yards. Thousand Acres can be found on the right hand side through a set of electric gates.
From Tetbury take the A4135 to Beverstone. At the A46 crossroads continue straight over on the A4135. After approximately 3 miles, bear left towards the Cotswold Edge golf course. Once past the golf course, turn first right. At the bottom of the hill turn right again, then first left down Bradley Green. Thousand Acres can be found on the right hand side through a set of electric gates.
The historic towns of Cirencester and Tetbury are to the East. The regency spa town of Cheltenham is positioned to the North and the Georgian city of Bath, as well as the regional centre of Bristol, to the South.
The house is located on the outskirts of Wotton-under-edge and there are many attractions and facilities near by of which a few are listed below:
