    Luxury Country Manor House furnished in period style. Victorian 4 poster available, with 8 self catering cottages all 4 star standing in 12 acres of beautiful grounds and gardens in the most idyllic mountain setting close to the historic walled town of Conwy and the coast.
    Horse riding (beginners welcome), cycle hire, gym and sauna, games room, kids play area with free bikes, cycle hire, farm zoo, pond with ducks and geese, and a medicinal herb garden. We are in the Snowdonia National park at the foot of the Talyfan mountain

    All around Gwern Borter:
    The Manor is ideally placed at the foot of the Talyfan mountain, surrounded by the forests, rivers, mountains and lakes of the Snowdonia National Park. If you like to walk this is the place for you, from the Manor you can walk to the summit of the Talyfan mountain at an easy pace in 2 hours. The views are stunning, you will almost certainly see wild Welsh mountain ponies and in the spring new bourne foals. The higher mountains (over 3000 ft ) are a bit further down the valley. The Gwydir forrest is a fantastic place to explore on foot with marked routes dedicated to walkers. We are within easy reach of the major tourist attractions and just 5 minutes drive to the sandy beaches of the Conwy coast.     Facilities at Gwern Borter Country Manor

    Gwern Borter is surrounded by the forests, rivers, mountains and lakes of Snowdonia. It lies at the foot of the Talyfan mountain between the award winning village of Rowen (1 mile) and the medieval walled town of Conwy (3 miles) with it's magnificent Edwardian castle, picturesque harbour and sandy beaches. Our facilities include horse riding (beginners to expert), gymnasium and sauna, games room, children's' play area and pets' corner and our pond with ducks and geese plus a variety of day to day activities.

    We are also within reach of the many attractions of beautiful North Wales. Historic castles and beautiful stately homes, slate and copper mines, golf courses, fishing, boat trips, walking, climbing and mountaineering, Celtic hill forts, druid circles, druid burial chambers will be found on local mountain walks from the Manor. Buzzards fly over head and Welsh mountain ponies wander freely only a mile from the Manor.

    Horse Riding

    The rides are not open to the general public only our guests. We cater for every ability from those who have never been on a horse to experts. All kids, even those not riding, can help with the brushing and have a sit on and walk round the yard. Even for the most enthusiastic, no matter how busy we are we will try to give you enough riding, but a lot depends on the variety abilities here at one time. The rides are tailored as far as possible to your ability.

    Short Breaks in the Cottages

    Low and mid season is the period we do short beaks 2 and 3 day. The cost is on the cottage tariff. If you want an extra day to make it 4, phone for a price, it will be less than you think. Once into High and Peak season we only take weekly holidays Sat - Sat generally are fully booked but please phone last minute in case something is free or there has been a cancellation, or perhaps think about B+B in the Manor House

    As a holiday centre most of our customers want either a weeks holiday or a short break in the main season, so we cannot take 1 night bookings well in advance in the Summer months, but once again phone last minute we often have 1 night between 2 short breaks

    Historic castles and stately homes

    Wales is often described as a land of castles. Conwy castle is less than 5 minutes from Gwern Borter and was an important part of King Edward I's plan to surround Gwynedd in "an iron ring of castles" to subdue the rebellious Welsh population. There are many National Trust stately homes open to the public and of course the famous Bodnant Gardens.

    Slate and copper mines

    Mining has formed a vital part of Welsh industry and culture for hundreds of years. Several slate and copper mines are open to the public offering visitors a unique look back into the industrial past of this region of Wales. The Great Orme copper mine, the oldest copper mine in the world is to found in nearby Llandudno.

    The beautiful Conwy Valley

    Gwern Borter lies in the idyllic Conwy Valley 2.5 miles down the valley from Conwy. With the award winning village of Rowen only minutes away and the 'picture postcard' beauty of Betsy-y-Coed and Porthmerion within easy reach, Gwern Borter is ideally positioned as a base to explore Snowdonia.

    A haven for wildlife

    The area around Gwern Borter is a haven for wildlife where buzzards fly overhead and wild Welsh mountain ponies can be seen on the Talyfan mountains within a mile of the manor house. Ancient breeds of farm animals can be seen in the local rare breed farm park.
