  • Duddingstone Lodge Holiday Cottages - walking; cycling; bird watching; fishing; sailing; shooting; golf; off road driving; sightseeing and relaxing
Oak and Elm holiday cottages are two cosy semi-detached stone cottages within the grounds and adjacent to the owners home Duddingstone Lodge a former Gamekeepers cottage. Refurbished in 2003 they are compact yet well equipped. Each cottage sleeps 2 people and has twin beds.
Duddingstone Lodge is situated beside the B733 in the rolling countryside of the Bladnoch valley between Kirkcowan and Wigtown in the Machars, a beautiful part of Dumfries and Galloway, South West Scotland.
The cottages offer a peaceful retreat to those wishing to escape the hustle and bustle. Also an ideal location for enjoying the great outdoors, be it walking; cycling; bird watching; fishing; sailing; shooting; golf; off road driving or horse riding. There are also many ancient sites; castles, houses and museums to visit, along with numerous botanical gardens which thrive in the gulf stream.
Wigtown - Scotland's National Book Town only 4 miles away can provide for all your day to day requirements not to mention the numerous book shops to browse in and many places to eat out, For the whisky lovers the Bladnoch Distillery is only a few minutes drive from Wigtown. Other places within easy touring distance include Newton Stewart - a busy market town; Whithorn - seat of early Christianity in Scotland; Port William, Stranraer - take a day trip to Ireland and see Giant Causeway; Portpatrick and Port Logan- pretty coastal villages and film location for the TV series 2000 Acres of Sky and the Mull of Galloway - RSPB nature reserve and Scotland’s most Southerly point .
The scenery is varied, rolling pasture interspersed with small woodlands make up the area around the cottages. While towards Newton Stewart and Glentrool the Galloway Forest Park provides a more dramatic landscape of mountains and forest with many walking and cycle tracks for all abilities. The nearby coastline offers sandy beaches and rugged headlands to explore with views towards the Lake District, Isle of Mann and Ireland.
While enjoying your stay in a holiday cottage, you will be more than welcome to sit and relax in our garden and small woodland, which is visited by many birds and butterflies. For the star gazers the lack of light pollution provides an amazing view, on a clear night the skies can be breathtaking.
