  • Falcon Hotel Shipston on Stour -
In the pretty Cotswold Town of Shipston-on-Stour, The Falcon is the perfect base for touring. Visit the historic university city of Oxford, Stratford-upon-avon,the home of Shakespeare, the historic market towns of Banbury, Warwick and Leamington Spa and the many quaint villages which make up 'The glorious Cotswolds'. The Falcon is a beautifully kept market town hotel.

    History of The Falcon:

The Falcon started its life as The White Horse Inn in the 18th Century. The earliest records from 1793 show the Inn as a Coaching House and the Landlord as Richard Brain.

In 1828 the records reveal the premises were also the Excise House (Inland Revenue as we know it) and Post Office. The post office was run by Harriett Brain.

The Coaching House was kept busy by the Erin-go-Bragh and Tantibby coaches that travelled between Birmingham and London. Both called at the premises once a day each way, with the last call being 12.00 midnight on its way to London. Carriers also called in on a twice daily basis; the largest being Jollys.

In the 19th Century other Landlords included Joseph Collet and John Walker.During that time there were approximately 19 public houses or ale houses in the town, with some of the ale houses brewing their own ales. The name was changed to ‘The Falcon’ only about 4 years ago when it was completely gutted and refurbished. Lots of local residents still refer to it as “The White Horse “.

    The Falcon Today:

This friendly Inn stands in the centre of the village and offers very well furnished and comfortable bedrooms together with a popular and busy bar where quality food is also available. Staff are very friendly and a range of well kept real ales is available. Parking is to the side of the Inn.

    Once inside:

you'll discover a friendly locals bar, on a polished wood floor tall stools guard a striking light wood bar. Matching small round tables play host to local folk engaged in conversation or just reading the paper. Lit by pretty wall lights and an open fire, striking pictures hang from pastel coloured walls.

Choose from our range of real ales, lagers, wines, spirits. After a hard day working or sightseeing, relax in our eating area, which is located at one end of the bar. Enjoy a meal from our range of popular, traditional, English dishes. Subtle decor and period-style furniture add to the warmth of The Falcon making this the ideal venue, from an intimate meal for two, to large social events.
