The Village of Braemar is situated at the very heart of the Cairngorms National Park, Britain's largest national park. We are surrounded by the most stunning mountain scenery, with many and varied walks to enjoy in the area, from a half-hour's stroll to a full two-day excursion into the hills.

The area boasts many excellent visitor attractions, including beautiful castles, whisky distilleries, museums and "Living History" parks. Balmoral Castle, the Royal Family's summer home, is a short drive away, and of course Aberdeen city is a must with its excellent shopping centres and restaurants.

The more energetic among you are well catered for, with ski-ing at Glenshee, Britain's largest ski centre, just a few miles away, and the world-famous Braemar Golf Course, the highest 18-hole golf course in Britain at just over 1100 feet above sea level, nestling among the mountains at the edge of the village.

There's pony-trekking available quite close by, plus in the summer months you have the chance to go trekking on the Queen's ponies at Balmoral, riding regally around the Balmoral estate. There's something to go home and tell the family about!

You can hire mountain bikes in the village by the day or week, and go exploring the many tracks and byways in the area; a very good way to get out and about without spending so much time on the "long walk in".

A little further afield, at the Lecht ski centre, there's a quad-bike and go-cart track in the summer, and the chairlift is open to take you to the mountain top and admire the views.
