The Barn: Situated peacefully on the southern edge of Wacton Common, the red glow of the swayed pantile roof is your first sight of Le Grys Barn. Its quiet rural setting - in the summer surrounded by grazing cattle- belies a stunning interior of light filled space and soaring oak beams.

    No smoking: indoors policy.

Originally a traditional threshing barn and now a sophisticated family home, the barn is furnished with Persian rugs and antique Oriental furniture reflecting the familys' interest in the Far East, where they travelled extensively during 14 years spent living in Hong Kong.

The dramatic Interior has been the subject of several magazine features and a T.V programme.

Accommodation: Guests are warmly welcomed to this uncommercial and secluded retreat in the heart of South Norfolk and a separate wing of low barns on one side of the central courtyard has been thoughtfully and stylishly converted into two luxurious ensuite bedrooms.

Each room has its own private entrance and terrace overlooking herbaceous beds, tennis lawn, open countryside and Norfolk skies.

Every consideration has been given to comfort and relaxation. Both rooms have T.V., CD/Radio, Tea and cafetierre coffee making facilities, miniature fridges with mineral water and fresh milk . The bedding is top quality, with electric blankets for chilly nights. There are always fresh flowers, lots of glossy magazines, plenty of tourist information to browse through and lots more.

The Stable Room is a beamed twin or super-king room - the walls are washed with warm terracotta, the soft furnishings a combination of Indian cottons and Thai silk. An antique Chinese cabinet has been converted into a wardrobe and on top sits a serene golden Buddha. The bathroom has rustic pine and Italian tiles. Add bubble bath and relax!

The Garden Room is a romantic, raftered double, decorated in dusty rose and neutral colours with heavy Indian crewelwork curtains. The cushion covers are woven with scented sandalwood, and like many items in the room come from the Island of Bali. The bathroom, again with Italian porcelain tiles, has a shell and pebble theme, highlighted with touches of gold.

Breakfast is taken at separate tables in the main barn which has views over the common and the flower filled courtyard. A delicious and colourful selection of tropical fruits, yoghurts and honey, cereals and juice is laid out on the sideboard, (originally a Chinese altar table). Full English breakfasts are freshly prepared to order

Dinner: The Fox and Hounds a five minutes drive away, is our local country pub serving very good food at very good prices. There are two other excellent pubs with restaurants about ten minutes from here. Local taxis readily available

Location: It has frequently been noted by visitors what a central location the village of Wacton has. The whole of Norfolk and North Suffolk can be explored with ease. In a little over an hour you can be on the dramatic North Norfolk coast, picnicking in the dunes at Holkham (voted one of the worlds best beaches) watching the seals at Blakeney Point, admiring the windmill at Cley or designer shopping at Burnham Mkt. Further west visit the Queen's house at Sandringham (see the glorious Norfolk Lavender fields there in the summer)

The beautiful Norfolk Broads are only 45 minutes from Le Grys Barn and the candy coloured beach huts at Southwold on the Suffolk coast are also a pleasant 45 minute drive. To the south there is the ancient Viking burial site at Sutton Hoo and the misty meadows of Constable Country.

The cathedral city of Norwich is 12 miles away with its cobbled streets, timber framed buildings, bustling outdoor market, theatres and shops all dominated by the magnificent castle. The splendid new Millennium Library at the Forum is our latest treasure.

On our doorstep here in South Norfolk, we have The Otter Trust, Bressingham Garden Centre and Steam Museum, Banham Zoo, Gliding at Tibenham, Horse riding at Rushall, Golf at Dunston, Motor Racing at Snetterton, and excellent fishing in the Tas Valley. There are lovely country walks around the Barn itself and many good cycle trails.
